Sweet Augustin,

Augustin, Augustin,

sweet Augustin,

all is gone.

Money and wife, all is gone.

Sweet Augustin,

all is gone.

The author of the Japanese lyrics is unknown, and in fact, the lyrics are a translation of the German ones. However, the German word “dear” is translated as “sweet”, so the lyrics seem to tell the story of a sweet child. In fact, the real Augustin has long been grown up and was a middle-aged man who was drunk every day. Thus, a translation similar to “Hey Augustin” would be more accurate. In Japan, this song is also sung as a scout song with entirely different lyrics entitled “Let’s break the rock”.
