Vo Luzern uf Wäggis zue
From Luzern to Wäggis

Vo Luzern uf Wäggis zue,

holladihia, holladiho,

brucht me weder Strumpf noch Schue,

holladihiaho.

Hia holladihia, holladihia, holladiho,

hia holladihia, holladihiaho!

Fahr im Schiffli übern See,

holladihia, holladiho,

um die schönen Maidli z’ seh,

holladihiaho.

Hia…

From Luzern to Wäggis,

holladihia, holladiho,

you need neither socks nor shoes,

holladihiaho.

Hia holladihia, holladihia, holladiho,

hia holladihia, holladihiaho!

Cross the lake on a little boat,

holladihia, holladiho,

to see the pretty girls,

holladihiaho.

Hia…

Johann Lüthi (1800-1869), a Swiss musician with a simple background, originally wrote this song with the title “Rigi-Lied – Rigi Song” because he was so thrilled by a trip to Luzern and by a boat trip on the Lake Vierwaldstatt underneath mount Rigi (exactly from Luzern to Wäggis) he wanted to pass on his experience. Of course, the song also features yodeling which is typical for Switzerland.
