In the third part of the first musicbook for elementary school, this song was published with the title “Flower bird” in 1884. In 1909, Sakufû Kondô wrote lyrics entitled “Little rose on the heath” for this particular song that were close to Goethe’s original poem. Since children could only hardly understand parts of these lyrics, he later on simplified them. Moreover, he added the title “The wild rose” to this version that is widely spread nowadays.
