chichihaha mata itsunohini

Farewell, farewell, my home,

I am going far away.

Farewell, farewell, my home,

I am going far away.

So we both endure

a short separation.

Farewell, farewell, my home,

I am leaving you now.

One day, my home,

my home, I will come back.

One day, my home,

my home, I will come back.

My secret thoughts,

I keep to my heart,

about mountains and rivers, about father and mother.

Father and mother, some day we will meet again!

Entitled “The lovely little golden rose”, this song was included in the second part of a songbook called “songbook for female pupils”, which was published in 1901. The lyrics that we use were written by Toshie Natsume. However, there is another version of the lyrics written by Toshiaki Okamoto which are sung to the same melody and are very popular as well.
